************************

Leucophyllum frutescens (also know as Texas Ranger/Sage) is an evergreen shrub indigenous to the Chihuahuan Desert region of Texas and northern Mexico. This species is characterized by its densely branched, compact growth habit and distinctive silvery-gray foliage that reflects sunlight and conserves moisture (an adaptation to arid environments). During periods of high humidity or following rainfall, it produces abundant purple to lavender corollas that attract native pollinators, particularly bees and hummingbirds. At maturity, specimens typically get to heights of 5 to 8 feet with a similar spread. Does best in full sun with well-drained, calcareous or sandy soils. Once established, Texas Rangers have exceptional drought, heat, and alkaline tolerance, making it an excellent candidate in a desert landscape. Minimal pruning and irrigation are required to maintain its ornamental value and ecological function.
