The biggest reasons they are sought after at our nursery are their low maintenance and drought tolerance as well as their unique, charming, and wide-ranging shapes and forms. They also make great gifts since the vast majority grow well both indoors and outdoors.
So what exactly is a succulent? The Latin root of the word is "sucus" which means "juice" and "moisture." Generally, succulent plants refer to those that have parts such as leaves and stems that store water to survive periods of droughts. "Succulence" refers to the plump or fleshy texture of these plants due to the water.

"Over-caring" in the form of over-watering is the biggest reason succulents die. Succulents will rot if they're constantly in wet soil. Allowing the soil to dry out in between waterings, and using fast draining soil are crucial for their health.
